Canada has been invited for the 24th edition of the Ship for World Youth. 10 delegates and a National Leader have been selected to represent Canada on this journey departing from Japan, sailing to Singapore, India and Sri Lanka. The delegation will be participating on SWY from January 18th to March 5th, 2012, but they have already started rocking the boat. Check out the delegation’s blog.

Last time Canada was invited was in 2009 for SWY21, 3 years ago. We learned Canada was invited early in the summer of 2011. From East to West, SWYAA Canada held info sessions in Universities or librairies, Alumni attented radio and tv shows to advertise the program and organized the selections. More than a dozen of alumni took more than 2 week-ends to read all applications, from the very beginning to the end. It is after hours of reading and debating that the SWYAA Canada came up with 10 delegates, and a National Leader who was selected by a special committee.
Early September, delegates found out they had been selected and lot’s of work was already waiting for them! The ship is only leaving in January, but delegations from around the world started organizing their things in order to be ready for this wonderful experience.
