SWY 19 - Daily Schedule

The schedule on board
is pretty demanding, describe one thing you loved and one thing you
wish could be improved on.
On any given day, our schedule would be jam-packed full of club
activities, free discussion, sports and recreation, course
discussions, seminars, workshops and everything in between. As
such, one of the things I came to appreciate was the “grand bath.”
The grand bath is a custom in Japanese culture whereby people,
separated by genders of course, bathe together communally. This
offered a prime opportunity each day to relax and decompress, while
partaking in meaningful conversations with other PY’s who were also
enjoying the grand bath.
Amidst the demands and the structure of the scheduled SWY19
program, I often wished that more free-time was available to
participants. In and of itself “free-time” is a deceiving term
because rarely would we be “free” to do absolutely nothing. In
fact, free-time was filled with a number of different voluntary
activities including such things as wadaiko drumming, Japanese
calligraphy, Fijian basket weaving, capoeira, seminars on traveling,
the United Nations and human rights, and of course, a whole host of
movies playing in the Theatre.
