What did
you have difficulty adjusting to during the program?
"One of the
first things we've noticed is that it's difficult to find alone time
here. While there's a variety of rooms and different types of
spaces, there's no retreat that is really your own, other than the
mattress on your bed and the shelter your blanket provides. As
a confined space, away from all of our normal distractions and
indulgences, it's clear that the Nippon Maru is a tremendous
opportunity for personal development and transformation." - Adam,
SWY 18
"The rigid
structure with lots of stuff going on all the time...taking breaks
was important, and sometimes I just had to go out on a limb and do
something myself" - Fahreen, SWY 18
"I was
seasick probably 1/3 of the time. There were times when I
really wanted to participate, but was feeling too sick to do
anything. I was constantly on gravol and after a while, you do
get used to the rocking." - Aimee, SWY 18
"Remembering
to speak really slowly ALL the time (it was easier once I become
attuned to body language telling me if they understood). -
Fahreen, SWY 18
"Trying to
decide between trying to talk to everyone versus getting to know a
few people really well. There are so many interesting people
on board that it would be a loss to hang out with the same people
all the time, but trying to meet everyone means that you have less
time to build strong lasting relationships that will continue after
the program finishes." - Blair, SWY 12
